The Brilliant Parenting Discussion Group will meet at Water’s Edge Waldorf School, 150 W. Bonner Road at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of each month to discuss a variety of topics of interest to parents who take a mindful approach to the choices they make in raising their children. The Spring and Summer schedule follows:
March 24: Screening ofConsuming
Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood. Drawing
on the insights of health care professionals, children’s advocates,
and industry insiders, the film raises urgent questions about
the ethics of children’s marketing and its impact on the health
and well-being of kids. Discussion will follow the film.
April 28: Connecting Your Child
With Nature: Raising the next generation of environmental
stewards. Come and discuss how parents can help their child
learn to love exploring nature and playing outside.
May 26: Screening of Where Do
the Children Play? This new documentary film
examines an issue of growing concern among pediatricians,
mental health experts, educators and environmentalists: more
and more children are growing up today with little or no opportunity
for unstructured play, especially outdoors. Discussion will
follow the film.
July 28: The Importance of Family Rhythm. As
back-to-school approaches, come and learn some tips for re-establishing
a healthy rhythm for your family. Learn how much sleep children
need at different ages and how to make transitions easier.
September 22: Storytelling for Children.
Come and learn why telling stories is important and take home
tools you’ll need to weave stories into your everyday routine.
Discussion will be based on the book Storytelling with
Children, by Nancy Mellon, but reading the book is not
required.
